Can you register your puppy? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL is the ONLY person who can register a Portuguese Water Dog under the Driftwood name with the AKC. Every puppy she sells can be AKC registered under the Driftwood name.
•What is your breeder’s reputation in the dog world? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL has been breeding and showing PWDS in the AKC for 20 years. You can see her and her husband in the show ring across the country. She has produced more than 150 AKC champion PWDS, and her dogs have more Best In Show wins than any other PWD breeder. MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL has been a member of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America for 20 years and is the Area Representative for Nebraska. In 2008 she received the PWDCA Outstanding Breeder Achievement Award (OBAA), an award based on titles and accomplishments in 2007 from every AKC venue, including the conformation ring, obedience, agility, tracking, and PWDCA water work in which dogs bred by Morgin competed. •What is your breeder’s reputation with her puppy owners? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL can give you the names and numbers of dozens of satisfied puppy owners. Talk to them yourself.
• Is your puppy from champion stock? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL breeds puppies whose parents are AKC champions of record, not just from championship lines of some distant relative in the pedigree. You can look them and their titles up yourself on the AKC database at www.akc.org •Is you puppy from healthy breeding stock? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL will provide you with copies of the actual health certificates issued for both parents, as recommended by the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. For more information, see http://www.pwdca.org/health/ oOptigen: both parents will be certified to be free from Progressive Retinal Atrophy, an eye disease that causes affected dogs to go blind oGM-1: both Parents will be certified to be clear from Storage disease, a fatal nerve disease. oHip Dysplasia: both parents will be certified by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals to be free from hip dysplasia. oCERF: Both parents will have eye examinations oJCDM: At least one parent will be certified to be free from Juvenile Cardio Myopathy, a simple recessive gene that kills affected puppies NOTE: much of this information is available in the public domain at www.offa.org. •Is your puppy healthy? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL guarantees her puppies are free from hip and elbow dysplasia, Storage Disease, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, and Juvenile Cardio Myopathy. You have until the dog’s fifth birthday to report any of these problems, and you will be given a replacement puppy of equal or greater value free of charge.
•What is your breeder’s reputation with her Veterinarian? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL has been using the same Veterinarian for 20 years. Countryside Veterinary Clinic knows Morgin and all of her dogs.
•Are you going to be able to find your breeder when you need her in the future? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL has had the same home phone number and a street address in Fairbury Nebraska for 20 years. She will NOT ask you to send money to an anonymous Post Office Box.
•Can you meet your puppy and its parents? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL will welcome your opportunity to visit the litter and meet both parents (depending on their location).
•What if, sometime down the road, you cannot keep the dog? MORGIN QUIRIN POWELL requires that, if you do not wish to continue with your dog for any reason at any time in the dog’s life, you return to the dog to her to rehome. She does not want her dogs dumped in animal shelters.
